When you are constantly on the go and running errands, it’s hard to take care of yourself while you are juggling all the expectations and responsbilities. However, as we all know, being short on time and energy can be extremely draining. The demands on you need to slow down, so rather than calling time out on all your responsibilities, you just need to breathe.
[This post contains ads] Centering yourself can give you the time to rest, restore and recover. You don’t want to walk away from your life, but you are human, which means that you need to be able to put your hands up and take a minute away from it all.
Some people like to use this time to go on a short vacation or a retreat, like with the Cenacle Sisters where you can reach out through prayer and get some guidance. Others are okay with just a pause or day off. You know how long you need, listen to your body. Here are some of the ways that you can relax in all the chaos when a break isn’t possible:
- Relax. Just take a moment and relax. Remove yourself from the stressful situation and start controlling your breathing. For example, take a long breath in for four seconds, and hold for seven before you release for eight. No matter what you are doing, you can make sure you are breathing deep, so you can stay focused and relaxed. If you have a little more time, I recommend trying some calming stretch yoga. It is the best way I have found to let go of stress.
- Heal. Stress can cause a tension in your back that requires a little more than a stretch. Head to the chiropractor and get adjusted. You can keep your nervous system from interference so that you can adapt to the heavier demands put upon your body. Time spent realigning your body can help you to relax your body and feel renewed.
- Be Vocal. If you need a moment, TELL SOMEONE. I say this loudly, because the number of people who don’t tell anyone when they’re struggling is the reason that they continue to struggle. Reconnection requires support, and if you don’t ask for it, you don’t get it.
- Pamper Yourself. Even it is just a glass of tea or buying a monthly spa box, studies show that recentering is easiest with a little self-pampering. The act of pampering allows you to remember that you are valuable and should be gifted with peace and joy in life.
Stress is a killer, and if your life is becoming so overwhelming for you that you feel stressed and scared all the time, you need that break. Take a long, slow breath and center yourself – you need the rest, to relax and to rediscover that you are valuable and needed.
